About shakespeare on tour

Shakespeare On Tour is now in its 35th year bringing a 55-minute version of Shakespeare plays to schools, libraries, and communities. Five actors/educators perform multiple roles and often teach 1-hour post-show Playshops. This is an actor-managed tour, with the cast doing their own driving, set up, and break down at each location. We tour all over California, usually 1-3 shows per day at 1 or 2 different locations. Most shows are Monday-Friday daytime, but there are some evening and weekend shows.

Roles Available

An ensemble of 8-10 actors; some roles will be precast.

SF Shakes is deeply committed to inclusive, empowering, and conscious casting. Actors of all genders and races and disabled actors will be considered for all roles.

Pay Rates

Full-time non-AEA actors: Rehearsals are 20 hours/week at 18.48/hr, performances are 30 hours/week at 18.48/hr, including 4 days paid vacation.
Part-time non-AEA alternate actors: Rehearsals are 20 hours/week at 18.48/hr, plus 4 guaranteed days for performances at 18.48/hr. Additional days at the same pay may be necessary.

Important Dates

Rehearsals: January 17 – February 11, 2024, time TBD, Tues-Sat as needed. Likely daytime rehearsals.
Performances: Starting February 14, primarily Tues-Sun 8 am-5 pm, possibly some weeks Mon-Fri, very occasional evening shows, through end of May 2024. All full-time actors covered by an alternate to be determined during the rehearsals. Some performances will be out of town and overnight stays will be required. All accommodations and transportation will be provided.

Alternates

All roles will be covered by a part-time alternate; alternates are paid for rehearsal time, plus they receive per-day pay for performances. Alternates must commit to being available for the entire run. Every effort is made to give alternates a performance opportunity early in the run, and alternates are guaranteed at least 4 performances.
